Last Thursday Rob and I headed to Tunica, Missisippi with some friends, to go to Casinos there... We stayed in one of the Casinos, "Gold Strike" - it was very nice...I'll try to remember to upload the two pictures I got (yeah, two) of Rob and Rich eating (I don't think you can take pictures in casinos, so that's all I got)....
There were 9 of us on the trip, 3 guys without girlfriends (well, one is engaged but hasn't seen his fiance in months...that's ANOTHER story! I won't get started. hah), Rob and I, and then two couples. The group had tried to get a rental, and then we were taking my car, too (I didn't want to pay for a rental), but the rental ended up cancelled when they got there to pick it up! Oops. So we took my car and my friend Krista's car.
The drive took about 8.5 hours, and we stopped and ate Arby's on the way. It went by pretty quickly because we had walkie-talkies and played "20 questions" with the other car --- we got ORION - the constallation!!! Can you believe that? We got it. With only 20 questions. We were really good at that game.

We got to the casino/hotel late Thursday night (Friday morning), and while other people wanted to go gamble and see the place, I was in some pain and really needed to lie down (John don't make fun of me, I was really a trooper on this trip, and it was about 2AM anyways). At that point I had a bad cold anyhow. I had a pile of napkins (for kleenex) in the car. Gross.
I ended up sleeping on the floor because the 4 guys could share beds, and the couples could, and Rob and I don't do that (Which everyone of course thought was SOoooooo weiiiird but whatever, maybe I'll get to Heaven for sleeping on the floor). I think Rob felt bad but there wasn't really anything he could do, I didn't want to sleep with one of the other guys, either! ha. There was an air mattress (our friends brought) but it was more comfortable to be on the floor, quite frankly....(it wasn't an Aerobed...)
The second night I came up with a strategy that helped me get a little more sleep - while some of the guys were in the poker room and the rest of us went to bed (they stayed and gambled til dawn), I slept in the vacant bed. Then when they came up, I'd move to the floor. It worked out, I got a couple hours of good sleep that way :)

I had practiced playing black jack and poker with Rob before the trip, and played online poker to practice, too...but I still got really intimidated by the guys at the poker tables. The only ladies that were at the table (few and far between) were...well, kinda scary-looking, too, in their own ways. Plus everyone kept putting in more and more and more chips, and I couldn't handle that. I realized later I should have joined a tournament, because in tournaments you put in a set amount of money, and then you get a lot of chips, and when they're gone, you're done. Nothing more lost. But oh well, I stuck to Black Jack and I have to say, I'm decent at it. :) And I really like to play!
One game (of black jack), I was down to only ONE CHIP ($5)...and got all the way up to $135. Aweeesoooome. Good thing, because I had started with $100. So it would've been bad if I lost it all. I did lose $65 of Rob's money while he was playing in a poker tourney. Oops. He ended up giving me some of his winnings when we got home :) yay! (Yes, my boyfriend is really nice... he also makes over twice as much money as I do. haha :))...So I came out alright.
I did play the "one-armed bandits" (the slot machines) a bit, and I really liked the "Wheel of Fortune" ones, but I liked playing Black Jack better - the odds of winning more money were better, and it lasted longer. Although I was trying to hit one of the huge jackpots on the slots. (They had several big jackpots going, people won while we were there)
They also gave away a car, which I was so determined I was going to win...but I did not. (A mercedez-benz!)

(Side note: I guess we were there on a "lucky day" - February 29th - and the hotel was full that night - so was the casino! It was crazy.)
I got to sit in the hot tub a couple of times, which I enjoyed. A woman in there told me her whole life story, her husband's in the reserves, she has one little girl who is 3 but big for her age (not sure how or why she and her little girl were in the casino), her brother is in the navy and has 3 kids but he's only 27, she just had some dental work done...... you get the gist. I have to say, some of the people there are interesting....
I even ventured to a couple other casinos with Rob and our friend Rich. (Rich = HILARIOUS)...I was proud of myself for trying all these new things! Next time I go (if that happens? I would go again.) I want to learn more games. :)
Oh yeah, one day while we were there my mom told me "the next 20" I bet was "hers" so I went to a Black Jack table and used "her 20" and quit when I got to 30, then took those chips out and gave them to a friend so I would be able to win and not lose for mom, and I ended up losing a lot of my own money after that. oops. I should have played it all for mom, maybe I would have won that way. But...like I said, I came out okay in the end :)
And when you think about it, if you spend 20 bucks or so to sit at a table for a while (Not many people only play with 20, but I could last at a Black Jack table for a pretty long time with only 20 or 25 bucks worth of chips), it's at least as fun (sometimes more) as a night at the movies or bowling or something (which costs about as much these days), and you have the chance to win money :) I wouldn't mind having poker nights and things like that whenever I have the space for it...I guess poker tables are really expensive, I thought it'd be cool to have a really nice kitchen table that "viola!" turned into a poker table when needed...but I guess that's pricey. Plus maybe it's more practical if I have children to just have a table they can color on. :)

Wow I got off track - ok, :) I really had a good time on the trip, the smoke is my biggest complaint - it was wayyy too smoky! But on the positive side: I was very happy about the food. : ) (I thought maybe some of the food made me sick, but 1) It's lasting longer than food poisoning and 2) no one else got sick.) The trip ended up being pretty cheap since I came out ahead (well, because Rob gave me money, really). Nice, huh? All of our food was free (since we gambled) - this was Rob's dream - we had buffets....the whole time. Three times a day, buffet. Steak (not Friday of course), lobster, crab, chicken, pastas, chinese, macaroni (yes, sounds weird, but it was SO GOOD!), omelets, waffles, ice cream (yep, ice cream machine), salads, soups, chocolate fountain!, good fruit, TONS of food. I ate a lot of crab legs Friday night. :) Fridays in Lent are just so rough, eating crab legs...;) Honestly, it was a low-cost trip!!!
The way back only took us about 7.5 or 8 hours I think. We only stopped once, just to go to the bathroom, get gas, and get a drink...I got sicker and sicker on the drive, so I barely moved. Rob and I went to Mass when we got back - but I spent a lot of Mass time in the bathroom, preeetty sick!!! :( At least I got Communion! :)
Something I learned on this trip is... I don't really know if I ever want to go to Vegas. I thought I wanted to, but I don't know anymore...The guys were talking about the difference between Vegas and Tunica, (they like Tunica better for the most part, too) and there were Vegas pamphlets and stuff..ew....I guess the "comps" are better in Tunica (the free food).
And Vegas sounds way too dirty for me. I'd like to see some of the shows - if they're decent (clean!) and the atmosphere...but I don't even like commercials with women in their underwear, and if they were walking around by me, I'd probably throw up.
So, I recommend Tunica. There's none of that.

I can't believe that your car is still running these days. That is a good car because you are always driving on these long distance road trips in that thing. Poor car probably wants a rest. How many miles does it have now? :)
